LEAP PROGRAM - FAITH SPONSOR INFORMATION
What Leap is
The Ohio Department of Development has partnered with Valley Learning Center, Inc. to present the LEAP (Learning Entrepreneurial Applications to Propel you toward Business Ownership) Program. Valley Learning Center Inc., is a faith based, 501c3 organization, under the leadership of Rev. Jim Vickers, Jr. VLCI specializes in training and business consulting with a biblical foundation.
This is a workshop with the objectives of teaching individuals the basics of business start up. The workshop is presented with hands on activities in a down to earth style that any person can connect with. The trainers presenting the information have successfully run their own businesses and share over 30 years of experience in training, teaching and preaching.
The Partnership
One of the key supporters of the MES has been the Ohio Department of Development (ODOD). We were asked to partner with the Small Business Development Center to provide a series of workshops on the basics of entrepreneurship. The ODOD has recognized the need for training of this type to be taken into the communities where there has been corporate downsizing, forced retirement, and layoffs, due of factory closing, company relocation, etc. These impacted individuals need to find options and one of them may be to own their own business. We know that business ownership can also positively impact the communities where these individuals live.
The reason for our selection was the success we have had in bridging the divide between the corporate and faith communities. They have witnessed our training programs and conferences, resulting in a high level of confidence that we can deliver these workshops in ten cities throughout the state.
LEAP Workshop
The LEAP Workshop (Learning Entrepreneurial Applications to Propel You Toward Business Ownership) has been designed specifically for this partnership. These workshops will provide an educational and encouraging look at the benefits and perils of entrepreneurship. The focal content of the workshop is to educate individuals who are in the start up or recent start up phase of business ownership. The workshop is interactive with exercises to help the participants look at their own skill sets and ideas for business ownership. The trainers have over 30 years experience in training, as well as owning their own business. The workshops will be presented in the following areas:
