Lead Where You Are!

Most of our leadership styles are geared toward getting you from here to there. What if getting you from here to there took on a different perspective? Most of us are frustrated with the fact that we can’t get there from here. Or so it may seem.
Getting there may require that we learn how to cultivate here first. The best way to cultivate here is to BE present and to cultivate God’s presence. If you don’t like where you are and you’ve found yourself running to somewhere else just to avoid a present reality – that’s not getting you anywhere. Cultivating where you are means that you begin to love who you are where you are. Loving who you are is a trust issue. On the trust continuum we are either trusting completely or not trusting at all. Those who don’t trust at all have typically been hurt by others. If we don’t trust at all then our hope is in man. If we trust completely then our hope is in God, and according to Romans 5 – God does not disappoint.

We can blame others and our circumstances for all kinds of things. It’s not until we take responsibility for who we are where we are that things really start to change. I believe the coming year is going to be one of great challenge and for many, great disappointment. However it doesn’t have to be that way.

Think about the word disappoint – It means failure to meet expectations. This begs the question – whose expectations? The expectations you have on others or the ones you think they have on you?

It flows from the root word appoint or appointment – which is synonymous with assignment, commission or designation.
Could it be that your appointment, assignment or designation is where you are – right now? I wonder how many opportunities I’ve missed over the years because of my discontent or always looking for the ‘NEXT THING’. Maybe the next thing is supposed to be This Thing. Here’s a thought… Am I seeking the next thing for the sake of change or Am I resisting change where I’m at because of insecurity?

Here are two great questions to put in your view finder as you turn toward a New Year –

Ask yourself - ‘Why am I doing what I am doing?’

Then ask God – ‘Am I doing what I’m supposed to be doing?’

God’s assignments and appointments always spring from relationship. The ‘what’ I do comes from the love relationships that God has given me. He told us what to do – Love Him Completely –

with all your Heart (Passions, desires, appetites and affections),

Soul (Life – feelings, aversions and possessions),

Mind (Thoughts-Intellect, meditations, imaginations, opinions),

and Strength (Our Body, our Ability and Efforts).

When Jesus demands that we love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, he means that every faculty and every capacity of our being should express the fullness of our affection for God. He then says to love ourselves in such a way that those around us have a clear sense that we love God, love ourselves and this love expresses itself by loving them.

Let’s pray –
Father God, Use me until I’m all used up. If you’re done with me – then take me. If your desired purpose is yet to be finished – then pour out your Spirit of Transforming Grace. Make me to be like you in every way. Take this surrendered life and glorify your name!
