What is Marketplace Ministry?  Who are Marketplace Ministers?

Often when new terminology appears on the scene clear definitions are absent.  It’s important to bring some definitions to the vocabulary that you are not only going to hear, but most likely will express in the coming days.

The Marketplaceis a synthesis of business, education and government, and professional services.  It is typically recognized as the heart of a metropolis area.

Marketplace Ministersare individuals called by God for service in the marketplace to use their job as a ministry vehicle to bring transformation to the marketplace, so that the gospel will reach everyone within your sphere of influence.  They are the anointed representation of God who is working outside the four walls of the church.

Transformationis a condition of dramatic socio-political renewal that results from God’s people entering into corporate vision, corporate repentance and corporate prayer.  During these extraordinary seasons the kingdom of God pervades virtually every institution of human endeavor.

Paradigmis a conceptual grid through which reality is perceived.

Paradigm Shift is a change in that thinking grid that enables us to see reality in a different, often more effective way.

Prayer Evangelismis when we talk to God first about our friends and neighbors before we talk to them about God.  When we witness, do we try to do something to help that person to experience the power of God?  So that he or she will desire to know more about His wisdom?  Quite the contrary!  We often flood our target with all kinds of information and try to get the person to accept it as God’s wisdom, and we proffer a decision to receive Christ as a preamble to experiencing His power.

Prayer Evangelism in Four Easy Steps -  “Whatever house you enter, first say, “Peace be to this house.”  And whatever city you enter, and they receive you, eat what is set before you; and heal those in it who are sick, and say to them, “The kingdom of God has come near to you.”

Luke 10:5,8,9

  1. Bless and Pray – look for a person of peace
  2. Fellowship with them
  3. Minister and meet their needs – this is where we need to expect the Lord to intervene in their lives in a supernatural way.
  4. Proclaim that the Kingdom has come near to them.  It’s risky business to step out and offer to pray for someone, but God responds to that kind of faith.
